Entitled Active Arts at the Music Center, The Music Center in Los Angeles offers a robust and varied program in the performing arts. Geared to low cost participation of Los Angelenos from all walks of life, the Music Center invites citizens to participate in programs in dancing, instrumental music, singing, and storytelling.

A Taste of Dance provides instruction in current dance styles on the Music Centers plazas - no experience necessary. Dance Downtown, provides beginner dance lessons with both DJs and live music, and the Biggest Dance Ever brings together hundreds of dance enthusiasts for line dancing on the streets of Los Angeles.

Make Music for the Love of It, provides spaces for practice (and public enjoyment of the practice) to musicians who enjoy the acoustics of the Music Center's outdoor spaces. Selected volunteer non-professional instrumentalists practice music outdoors in designated "off-the-beaten-path" public spaces on the Music Center campus. Through Drum Downtown people are invited to make music "in the moment" with drums and other percussion instruments which are provided by The Music Center. Other programs offer instruction in several instruments by local music instructors.

Sing to Your Heart's Content includes Friday night sing-alongs, holiday sing-alongs and other opportunities to gather with others in group singing and performance.

Now in its fourth year, L.A. Storytellers, an Active ArtsŪ at the Music Center program, is a unique gathering and sharing opportunity for Angelenos to exchange life stories, vivid memories, oral histories, and engaging experiences, uncovering voices that represent a constantly changing city.

Family Programming at the Music Center introduces children and adults to the richly varied world of the performing arts through musical performances, artist talks, books brought alive by performing artists, special events, and more.
