Building on the Best of Birmingham

Birmingham, AL
Feb 8, 2008

The Birmingham Forum was held at the invitation of the Birmingham community, in particular Leadership Birmingham and Region 20/20, and was designed to address several issues that are timely in Birmingham, particularly with their recently elected new mayor. Development of an urban open space system linking several parks; the need for transit; and a widespread interest in developing methods and policies geared to sustainable development. Phillip Morris, Observer on Architecture and Urban Design, and Contributing Editor, Southern Progress Corporation, was the first presenter and laid out the city's challenges, identified pertinent issues in Birmingham and framed the conversations for the day. Please look at our program for a more detailed version of the day and What We Learned for more information on the discussions that took place.
