Phillip A. Morris is a freelance writer and lecturer, with a deep knowledge of the Birmingham area. Prior to his retirement Mr. Morris was associated with the Southern Progress Corp., and before that was Editor-at-Large for Southern Accents, and Southern Living, and from 1976-1991 was Executive Editor for Southern Living. He has been a newspaper editor for the Oklahoma Journal, the Daily Oklahoman and the Oklahoma City Times.

Mr. Morris is a member and past president of the Birmingham Historical Society, a past trustee of the Birmingham Botanical Society, and a past member of the Board of the American Architectural Foundation. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Alabama Humanities Award (1994); the American Institute of Architects Honorary Membership (1990; and the American Society of Landscape Architects Professional Award in Communications for his work in "Designs on Birmingham." Mr. Morris brings to the Forum an understanding of cities, urban issues and life styles, with particular expertise in the Birmingham area.
